In the spirit of Saint Valentine’s Day, and all of the moral standards it upholds *insert winky face*, there’s a chance your night won’t end after the romantic dinner if you’re so lucky (or have an accurate, yet concerning, memory of James Bond lines stored in your head).

Even though you feel like you’re the luckiest man in the world to have scored a date with her, don’t overwhelm her with your creepy “I’m just so happy to be here with you” smile — remain confident and in control at all times…even when she’s agreed to spend some bonus time with you after your date.

Now that your lady is in your abode, set the mood with warm lighting and break out that bartender set you’ve been waiting to use since you got it for Christmas. Leave the recipes to us and impress your date with these five cocktails! Note: To make things easy, tablespoons and teaspoons will be used as the units as opposed to the traditional liquid ounce (oz).

Hot Toddy: The Tried and Trusted

Originally served cold in India —its country of origin, this beverage gained some heat during its trip across the Atlantic on its British colonial ships, but that’s a conversation for another day. Use this recipe to heat things up literally, or figuratively…you pick.

  • 2 – 4 tablespoons of whiskey
  • 2 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of honey or 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of boiling-hot water

Serve in a clear mug if you have one. Extra points for tossing a cinnamon stick in there and for placing a lemon slice on the rim of the cup.

French Connection: It has the word “French” in its name…ya can’t go wrong

Although this is a simple two-ingredient drink, there’s a certain je na sais quoi to its flavor — maybe it’s the amaretto.

  • 3 tablespoons of cognac
  • 2 tablespoons of amaretto

Pour them respectively into an old-fashioned glass over some ice and envision the Eiffel Tower lighting up the room!

French Kiss: The Innuendo

Now here’s a clever way to ask for what you really want guys. After a sip, hopefully your lady is as bubbly as the rose in the drink.

  • 2 tablespoons of gin
  • 1.5 tablespoons of St Germain
  • 1/2 a tablespoon of Aperol
  • 1/2 a tablespoon of lemon juice
  • Top with a loving dash of sparkling rose

Garnish with an orange twist and make a smart toast.

Cupid’s Cup: Love Struck

After a hard day’s work of fireworks sparking between longing couples, let’s hope that cupid still has one last arrow in his quiver with your name on it.

  • 4 tablespoons of Vodka
  • 2 tablespoons of St. Germain
  • 1.5 tablespoons of Fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 a tablespoon Simple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons of Muddled strawberry
  • Top with Martini sparkling rosé
  • Garnish with a strawberry

Pour the contents with the confidence of the world knowing that she’s about to have love’s arrow flying in.

Apple of My Eye: Because you are

A special drink for a special lady. You could be mixing this drink for anyone else in the world, but you’re making this one for her because there’s no one else in the world you’d rather be with at this moment — make sure you put all your energy into expressing that!

  • 3 tablespoons of Apple vodka
  • 3 tablespoons of Apple Dashi simple syrup
  • Amaro foam
  • Garnish with an apple slice

Remember that anyone can make a good cocktail, but any bartender will tell you the most important ingredient you need when concocting any good cocktail is good conversation and maybe a bit of showmanship. Don’t cut corners or skip any steps, spend time with your date, and impress her with your attention to detail and your steady, but respectful pace and you both will have an immaculate time!
