Sylvan Esso video PARAD(w/m)E
Clearly all of us over here at CommonPolished have a soft spot for Houston. And fun fact: Sylvan Esso digs Houston too! The dynamic duo, comprised of Appalachian vocal angel Amelia Meath and producer extraordinaire Nick Sanborn, were scheduled to play a sold out show at White Oak Music Hall in Houston’s Heights neighborhood August 31, 2017. When Harvey forced the North Carolina pair to cancel their show, they reached out to their Third Coast fan base with a heartfelt Facebook message and donated the merchandise proceeds from their subsequent Austin show to the Red Cross Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. Nice right?
The next time the pair played in Austin would kick off their tour at M&M’s Sound and Color Showcase during SXSW 2018. The second stop on their tour? You guessed it: H-town! In a triumphant return, Sylvan Esso finally played to a sold out crowd at White Oak Music Hall on Monday night. Not fifteen minutes into the show, Sanborn stopped the music to lament Harvey’s path of destruction, thank the loyal fans for their support, and allow his bandmate Meath to make an announcement: the pair would donate all of the proceeds from Monday’s sold out show to continued Harvey relief through the Greater Houston Community Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. As you could assume the crowd WENT WILD.
If you’re a fan who missed the show or are an interested new-listener looking for a first taste of Sylvan Esso, fear not. Sylvan Esso loves Houston so much, they’ll be back this weekend to grace the stage of Houston’s inaugural In Bloom Festival. This reimagination of Free Press Summer Festival goes down this Saturday and Sunday at Eleanor Tinsley Park, where artists like Sylvan Esso, Beck, T-Pain and others will celebrate Houston’s indomitable spirit springing into a new season. If Monday’s show was any indication, this weekend promises to be a celebration to remember.
