Is it just me…or is everyone still repeatedly playing “Sicko Mode” months after the release of Travis Scott’s newest album. Scotts highly anticipated third studio album ‘Astroworld’ came out in August 2018 and since it’s dropped it’s been reviewed extremely well on various platforms.
Astroworld isn’t just the name of his album. It’s a nostalgic homage to the late great Houston theme park and the title of his tour/festival coming Houston this November. For those that don’t know, Astroworld was a Six Flags franchise theme park based in Houston from June 1968 until it was shut down October 2005 *sigh*. It was a sad day for Houstonians when a place that many of us created our early memories shut its doors. Scott being one of those people decided to base his whole record, and marketing for his album, on the theme parks concept.
“It’s a part of my imagination that was taken away when I was younger, and just reupholstered back on the city,” he said in an interview with Complex earlier this year. “I’m just trying to magnify my ideas. It’s like my dream works of festivals.”
Although the line up and specific details for this event haven’t been released yet there’s already been a lot of buzz about what Scott is cooking up. For that extra touch of nostalgia Astroworld Festival will be held at Houston’s NRG Park which is directly across the street from the original Six Flags Astroworld location. Scott’s concert-festival will include a full line up of other artists on various stages, a performance by Travis Scott, and of course various fun rides, foods, and games. Here’s what we’re expecting when the Missouri City rapper comes back home for his big show:
- Literal & figurative performances that set the stage a blazeee.
- Performances from Houston hip hop icons such as Bun B, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, etc.
- A tribute to DJ screw and Houston’s chopped and screwed music culture.
- Delicious carnival/rodeo food including turkey legs of course!
- A mosh pit, obviously.
- A Kardashian sighting in Houston??
The Astroworld: Wish You Were Here Tour started on Nov. 8,2018 in Baltimore and the actual Astroworld Festival will be Nov. 17, 2018 at NRG Stadium. To find the full tour dates and purchase tickets click here.
